[30th June '08] Galleries Shop-to-be receives one of King Bladud's Pigs in Bath
To celebrate recent successes on the way to bringing about the Galleries Shop, a small number of residents clubbed together to sponsor one of King Bladud's Pigs in Bath. This is a public art project which has caused 100 brightly decorated lifesize pig sculptures to be displayed in and around Bath for the summer of 2008, to be auctioned off in October for the benefit of the Two Tunnels Project.
Our pig was created by Jane Veveris Callan and is called "Country Pignic". It is installed next to the entrance of the Village Hall. See what it looks like from the right and from the left.
If you want to go pig spotting, printed pig maps are available from the Tourist Office in Bath, the shop in the Abbey and Bath Aqua Glass on Orange Grove.
[27th June '08] Galleries Shop obtains a £90,000 Rural Renaissance Grant
On 27th June 2008 the Freshford Shop Project was granted the sum of £90,000 under the Rural Renaissance Scheme (Government funding, administered through the South West Regional Development Agency and Bath & North East Somerset Council) towards the construction of the Galleries Shop, the community shop next to the Freshford Village Hall which is to serve both villages. The application required proof of match funding and it was only thanks to a number of residents who, at very short notice, committed to some considerable capital contributions to be made later in the year that we managed to achieve this.
To obtain the grant, the Group had to be legally incorporated so the Freshford Shop Project became the Freshford and Limpley Stoke Community Association (FLiSCA), a limited company, soon to achieve charity status. The shop itself will be run as a trading arm of this umbrella organisation, whose exact legal form, constitution, membership and how it will be managed and run remains to be decided.
[8th June '08] New bus service to Bradford-on-Avon
On July 1st, a new No. 95 bus service will start, providing a weekly service on Tuesday mornings to Bradford on Avon from Limpley Stoke and Freshford. The timetable and route are available on this website, and on Parish Notice Boards. The service will stop at Sainsbury’s and Bradford-on-Avon town centre and will allow for around a 90 minute stay in Bradford and/ or Sainsbury’s.
The service will be running for 6 months, at which time the providers will determine if it is economic to continue with the service. So it is very important that residents use the service if they wish for it to continue!
