Friends of Freshford

Since its inception in 1969 Friends of Freshford Association (F of F) has played an important part in the life of the village. Its objectives are:

To work for the good of the community of Freshford;

To foster its community spirit:

To maintain the character and enhance the amenities of the village and its rural environment.

Membership is open to all those who are sympathetic to the aims of the Association and who live in either Freshford, Limpley Stoke or Hinton Charterhouse. The cost of life membership is at present £20 and that is now under review. We are looking to increase and broaden the membership base to include family membership and even a Young Friends of Freshford.

Throughout the course of each year F of F holds a number of social and fund raising events to help raise money for village causes. Over the past decade some £18,000 has been raised and distributed. This year for example donations have been made to help pay towards the costs of conserving the Freshford Railway Sign which had once been an integral part of the station signage (from 1895 – 1968), towards the maintenance costs of the Tyning village green and towards the costs of mounting a plaque at Upper Mount Pleasant to mark the site of the old village hospital. The Annual F of F Quiz night which takes part in the early part of each year is well supported and embedded as part of the fabric of village life.

At the Annual General Meeting held in November 2012 the following people were elected to the Management Committee:

Nick Stevens, Chairman, John Ager, Treasurer, Helen Collins, Maureen Delap, Barbara Paine,

Roger Paine and Kay Small.
