Tour of Britain Stage Six, Friday 12th September

posted 5 Sept 2014, 02:14 by Parish Council Communications
Residents should be aware, if they are not already, that Stage Six of the Tour of Britain cycle race is starting from Bath on Friday 12th September.  There will be extensive road closures and traffic disruption in Bath that morning and, as the cyclists will be coming down Brassknocker Hill, over the A36 and down past Lower Stoke before continuing up Winsley Hill, there will be local disruption as well.

The Tour cars and police motorcycle riders will leave Royal Avenue at 10am ahead of the race.  At 10.15am, 120 professional riders from 20 teams will head out from Royal Avenue on a route which will take in some of Bath’s most iconic sites.  The race will head east out of the city up Wellsway, along Combe Down, before heading down Brassknocker Hill at 10.40am (all timings subject to change) and into the Limpley Stoke Valley, skirting Salisbury Plain on its way to the Chilterns and then on to the Stage Six Finish in Hemel Hempstead.

The race will be televised by ITV4 and will be broadcast live across 166 territories worldwide.
There will be a large TV screen in the Bandstand area on Royal Avenue, Royal Victoria Park as the race leaves Bath until it reaches its finish in Hemel Hempstead at approximately 4pm.
