Lower Stoke road closure - from 5th January 2015

posted 9 Dec 2014, 01:37 by Parish Council Communications
Work is due to start in the New Year on constructing a pavement in Lower Stoke, on the busy road between the Hop Pole pub car park and the B3108, where currently there is no footway. A painted pavement was not an option for this section because of the road width and lack of pedestrian ‘escape’ points due to the high station walls. The raised pavement will provide a one-metre-wide footway, with a short break in the middle for a vehicle passing place, between the pub car park and the main road, to link up with an existing pavement which passes under the railway bridge and continues up Winsley Hill.

This is a key walk-to-school route from the B3108 to Freshford School and a popular pedestrian link to the canal, riverside footpaths and Limpley Mill offices. The new pavement will provide a safer pedestrian footway between the village and bus stops at the bottom of Winsley Hill. The cost of the Wiltshire Council scheme is £21,300, with contributions of £5,000 from Limpley Stoke Parish Council and £2,000 from FLiSCA.

Please be aware that the road will be closed for the duration of the work, which is scheduled to start on January 5 and could take until February 6 to complete. Pedestrians, coaches and the No 94 bus will be escorted through the roadworks.
