Freshford Station platform works - updated timetable

posted 22 Nov 2017, 06:28 by Parish Council Communications
Since the Autumn edition of The Freshford Bulletin went to press, Network Rail has provided updated information about the planned works at Freshford Station.

The main objective is to extend both platforms in length to allow up to 5 car trains to call at Freshford. At the same time the lighting will be upgraded and tactile pavements installed on the platforms.

Although these are fairly major works (and a reassuringly significant vote of confidence in the future of Freshford Station) we are assured that there will be relatively little disruption for residents.
  • Access for the works team will be via the lane alongside Fairclose Farmhouse, so Station Road will be unaffected.
  • The platform works use new technology that does not require pile-driving and should be reasonably quiet.
  • The work will be done at night but lighting will be angled inwards towards the works.
  • The train service will continue to operate as usual and the station will remain open during normal operating hours.

The newly advised timetable is:
  • Site set up and preparation works: 15 January 2018 – 26 January 2018
  • Existing platform works: 27 January 2018 – 24 March 2018
  • Platforms 1 & 2 Extension works: 27 January 2018 – 25 March 2018
  • Works finish and leave site: 31 March 2018
Residents may be interested in a brief presentation about the works from Network Rail which can be viewed on the village website here - http://www.freshfordvillage.com/transport-1.  While there, you might like to be reminded of the good old days by clicking on the next item down - a film narrated by John Betjeman which includes several minutes (after roughly 17 minutes) about Freshford Station.
