Beware thieves in the area

posted 12 Oct 2012, 02:03 by Parish Council Communications
Freshford Neighbourhood Watch and Limpley Stoke Parish Council would like to make you aware that there have been house break-ins on Crowe Hill and Midford Lane in the last two weeks. Force was used to gain access to both properties on these occasions. If you see any suspicious activity in your area please contact the police on (non emergency) 101.

Burglary is often an opportunistic crime. Did you know that in 3 in 10 cases thieves break in through an open window or unlocked door? Here are a few tips that could help prevent thieves accessing your property;
  • A building that looks unoccupied and insecure is far more likely to be targeted than a property which is secured.
  • Make it as hard as possible for the burglar to get into your property, if you're away or on holiday, make the house look like you're still living in it.
  • A third of burglars get in through a back window.
  • Fit window locks to all downstairs windows, and to easily accessible upstairs windows.
  • Remove ladders that can be used to break into upstairs room.
