A36 night time closures at Monkton Combe

posted 20 Jan 2015, 08:15 by Parish Council Communications
This is to advise you that Skanska intends to start work in our area this month to carry out vital maintenance work on the A36 at Monkton Combe.

Working on behalf of the Highways Agency, they will be carrying out works on the A36 at Monkton Combe to improve the stability of the embankment. They plan to start these works on Monday, January 26th and they will take approximately 5 weeks to complete. The work will include the removal of all loose boulders and trees with shallow rooting on a 100m length of the embankment, securing the embankment and installing steel mesh to protect road users from potential rock falls.

Due to the type of activities taking place the first 4 nights work will be done under night time closures to ensure the safety of both the public and our workforce. This will mean that the A36 at Monkton Combe will be closed between 9:00pm and 6:00am Monday – Thursday. After this time, the works will be completed under night time off-peak signals, Monday to Friday for the remainder of the scheme.

During the 4 nights of road closures, there will be a signed diversion route in place. Southbound through traffic will be diverted from Bath to take the A4 to Chippenham and then the A350 south to Warminster, where traffic could join the A36 to travel south. Northbound through traffic will be diverted from Warminster to follow this diversion route in the reverse direction.

Access will be maintained for residents and Emergency Services.

Skanska apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, but ask both residents and drivers to be patient throughout this period of disruption. Every effort will be made to ensure that the impact on local residents is kept to a minimum.

If you have any queries or comments on this or any other works by the Highways Agency or its contractors, please contact the Highways Agency Information Line on 0300 123 5000.
