About our village

Freshford is a beautiful village at the southern-most tip of the Cotswolds, about five miles south-east of Bath and three miles west of Bradford on Avon.

The village sits above the convergence of the Frome and Avon rivers and is largely characterised by stone buildings surrounded by fields and woodland.  The hills and valleys that surround the village give an endless variety of views and provide habitats for a rich diversity of wildlife and flora.

The earliest written evidence of a settlement at Freshford dates from the tenth century.  For more details on the history of the village visit www.freshford.com or see local historian Dr Alan Dodge’s ‘Freshford – The History of a Somerset Village’, available in the village shop.

Today, Freshford is a warm community with all the services, activities and amenities a rural village needs to thrive.

We hope the web site will give you all the information that you need to explore these more fully.
